Having spent most of his adult lifetime in West Carleton, Hanns has spent many hours as a community volunteer over the years. During the floods and after the tornado, he picked up shovel and chainsaw to help with the response to these West Carleton disasters. When Hanns joined the Huntley Community Association as a Director, his role included emergency preparedness, with a special emphasis on wildfire preparedness due to Carp's close proximity to the wooded area of the Carp Hills. In due course, Hanns made the logical next step and subsequently also joined the WCDR Board of Directors. Hanns has been a member of the board since 2020.
