A flood watch is in effect and while the forecast indicates, at this point (May 5, 2025), that the peak will be lower than 2023 as we start to see water subside the City of Ottawa Public Works Department and WCDR continue to monitor the situation in the event that a water levels increase again.

To get ahead of the flood watch the city ramped up sandbag filling over the April 26-27 weekend with support from Team Rubicon utilizing a sandbag filling machine in Constance Bay to help with deploying  filled sandbags throughout West Carleton. Ongoing sandbagging operations on the part of the city are being assessed based on need.

Please see our MAP for sandbag staging locations near you that you can visit to collect filled bags

At this point WCDR does not have volunteers on site assisting with sandbag delivery or building sandbag walls, if we see that the forecasted water level starts to show that we are getting to closers to 2023 we will working with our partners to call for volunteers. If you expect that you may need assistance as the water rises please complete our REGISTRATION FORM

Please remember that volunteers have been to West Carleton numerous time to assist us with disasters. If you are able to hire a contractor or bring in friends and family to help you are encouraged to do so as volunteers may not be as readily available as they were in past years.

If sandbag assistance proves to be needed, assistance will be prioritized based on risk; lowest lying properties first. If you have any extenuating circumstance please indicate on the registration form and it will taken into consideration.

GeoOttawa's Flood mapping tool was used to assess property risk.
